pink cake with raspberry drizzle

Just a pink kind of mood today, (but come to think of it, I am rarely not in one).
This is a simple cake - no fuss or frills, less time-consuming than it will appear.
I adapted it very loosely from an old angel food cake recipe, and
I have to say I don't really buy into multi-step, separating-all-the-wet-and-dry-ingredients recipes.
This is the way I do it. It's simple and it works.

Ingredients:

CAKE:
1 1/2 cups white flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
5 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 water
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp lemon juice
Red food colouring (optional)

- Preheat oven to 350°F.

- Beat eggs, water and lemon juice in large bowl.

- Slowly add in sifted flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.

-Pour batter into ungreased cake pan. I use a Bundt, but anything works.
Swirl in food colouring if desired.

- Bake about 40 to 45 minutes, or until inserted knife comes out clean.

If using Bundt or tube cake pan, remove from oven and let cool in pan, inverted.

DRIZZLE:
1 cup raspberries, fresh or frozen
1/3 cup raspberry jam or preserve
2/3 cup granulated sugar

- Add ingredients to blender. Blitz until smooth.

- Pour blended drizzle into small saucepan, simmer at low heat for a few minutes
to dissolve sugar and melt any still-frozen berry bits.

- Let cool before drizzling.

*For what it's worth, leftover drizzle is excellent over ice cream!

touch of pink

Pink glitter nails, pink glitter earrings.
It's no crime to love it.

gold dust and kohl

I was watching Bollywood films yesterday,
and being inspired by the lovely Aishwarya Rai, I created this look.
(It also gave me another excuse to try out some different looks for the ballet tonight.)
I tried subtler liner than I might normally do (I am looking particularly pale and pasty, not a good combo).

saint valentine

Happy Valentine's Day, all!
This is my Vee Day outfit, a vintage piece from The Patch.
Check out the lovely cross-stitching!
I almost died when I found out it was my size. (And it fits like. a. glove.)

This is always a colourful and exciting holiday that spices up
the otherwise very dull, very grey month that February can sometimes be.
(I must add, no matter your current relationship status).
Cheers to the chocolate!
And the flowers.
And the love.

gung hay fat choy

And a happy Year of the Snake to you!
Snakes are gracious and wise, though they tend not to share their wisdom out of reservation.
They can also be intensely passionate, well-mannered but prone to jealousy or suspicion.
Their perception and empathy make them prized friends.

For those wondering, the japanese decorations are because my Dad's Japanese-Canadian.
So it's more like "Non-Denominational" New Year. Or something like that.
P.S. Check out my Mom's lovely Kokeshi collection.

feet first

I just love to arrange my shoes chromatically.
For February, anything red, pink or purple just brightens up my day.

black and white all over

I'm actually proud of myself, for managing
to break up what would otherwise be another monochromatic outfit.
The speckled greys are making me think about snow, something we seem to have missed this January.
Obviously if it did snow, it goes without saying that
this outfit would be extremely inappropriate weather-wise. So why am I saying it?
I'm hardly winter's biggest fan but I do love snow.
And unfortunately, this Fairisle scarf is likely about the closest I'll get to real snow for a while.
Sigh.

(P.S. There's still time for it to snow on my birthday! Come on, snow!)
