aspenglow

This post comes a little too late for this Christmas, (but very early for next year, ha ha).
This Christmas was not particularly restful. But the company was great.
And the gifts were beautiful.
Still, my favourite part of the holiday is decorating the house.

My Christmas indulgences are many, and as follows:

Dala horses, bottlebrush trees, Gzhel Russian porcelain, LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS!,
fake snow, nutcrackers, tinsel, oh, the list goes on. But truly, the magic is in the mix.

And not to forget, it's not Christmas without Bubble lights!
My sister bought me one of the Bubble light night lights last year.
With. Glitter. Yup, I'm in love.

Merry Christmas to all!
And to all a good night!

fourth nail of christmas

Hard to believe it's only one week until Christmas!
It always seems to manage to sneak up, right?

Here's my attempt at a Christmas tree nail (not my own design).
The tutorial can be found here, whence I drew inspiration.
Her final result is much nicer than mine, though. I don't claim to be a nail artist.
Although, was art school no help in this department?

Best of luck anyhow!

a christmas to remember

HELLO DECEMBER!

Wow, many apologies for being MIA for a while (college and what not...)
You find me preparing for final exams and decorating my home intermittently.
I will say that this year there is a disproportionate quantity of fake snow...

Every December I look forward to making my wishlist collage, which
provides a small peek into my soul (and my Christmas stocking!)
Here are a handful of picks from this year's list:

1. Vintage lace-ups by Vegetarian Boots (available from niceshoes.ca)

2. Kate Spade "Stop and Smell the Roses" idiom necklace (available from katespade.com)

3. Vivienne Westwood Frilly Snake Shoulder Bag (available from monnierfreres.co.uk)

4. Melancholia DVD. A beautiful and heartbreaking film! (available from Amazon.ca)

5. More Kate Spade!! Kate Spade 4 x 6" photo frame (katespade.com)

6. Icy Pine Scented Candle. Smells like the perfect Christmas Tree! (chapters.indigo.ca)

There will be photos of my Xmas decorations.
All in good time!

rainy day blues

While stuck indoors by the rain, I thought I would have some fun with the camera.
You'll notice a very prominent blue-and-white theme here.
Blue is my favourite colour, among many, and I'm just obsessed with it right now.
Particularly in Toile de Jouy prints, and anything remotely Chinese, Russian or Nordic.
Bear in mind though that this is but a mere sampling of all the blue-hued items I own...
As I said, I love it.

Some people might wonder why this particular colour palette, since it's often associated
with summer, weekends in the Hamptons, white houses with white columns...

Well, of all the colour combinations, this is the most timeless to me.
Mix both your favourite colours/shades together and what do you get?
Besides, I can only wear so much grey and black.
(For the record, I own a lot of black clothing! But I usually wear it on school days, 'cause it's casual).

From Top:

1. Asos Toile de Jouy dress

2. Ginger Jar from the Bombay Company, another obsession: Iittala's "Taika" line of tableware.
I was looking for it for years, being hesitant about ordering online, and now they sell it at Capital Iron!
Gaiman and Tolkien are on my Reading List.

3. Blue is bleeding into all aspects of my life: considering paint swatches, pretty paper from the Papery.
My rainy day playlist includes Goldfrapp's new album Tales of Us.
Also just released: Neko Case's new album (which is equally amazing).
Bonnie and I were in Vancouver to see her performance at the Orpheum this Friday.

4. An assortment of blue shirts and dresses.
First three are Dynamite, middle is French Connection, then an H&M scarf,
Dynamite tank top, and an American Eagle tee.

5. Detail of my Lomonosov teapot. I splurged on a whole set this summer and I adore it!!
I'm wild about most of the indigo Lomonosov patterns right now.

6. Miss KG bow platform pumps, Marc by Marc Jacobs gingham satchel

fall in love

I am very much ready to Fall into the autumn with Charlotte Olympia's Fall Collection.
Seriously, I am drooling over the Fairy Tale theme.
Six-inch heels and Grimm?
Yes, please.

red sands, green gables

Shots from my tour of the Green Gables Heritage Site, and the rolling dunes
and red sands of Cavendish Beach (above) in Central Prince Edward Island.

Like so many who've grown up with a love for Lucy Maude Montgomery's most popular character,
I've always longed to visit the copper shores of P.E.I., wander the sweeping green hills
and see the Lake of Shining Waters.
We didn't see Shining Waters but we did see the Singing Sands beach.
Our maritime adventure is winding down.
Will it be sunny back home?

Finish the day with a frozen yogurt!

candle on the water

Have officially landed on Prince Edward Island, known for Anne of Green Gables,
lobster, and its iconic red sands.
Some of the most beautiful beaches, too! The list goes on...

Many thanks to Air Canada for the air fare and opportunity!
We would not have gone but for you!

autumn in new york

Nothing epitomizes fall to me quite like the turning of the seasons in New York.
In my mind, the two are inseparable.
I'm still all aflutter, frantically trying to finish redecorating my home,
but I am enchanted by the bustle of back-to-school.
In You've Got Mail, Joe Fox, (portrayed by Tom Hanks) best summarizes my sentiments:

"Don't you love New York in the fall?
It makes me want to buy school supplies.
I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils
if I knew your name and address."

Therefore, it's understandable now why I'm in love with Kate Spade's fall accessories.
Enjoy this sampling!

salmonberry

Hanging out at the Dallas Cliffs.
Something about this colour palette is very reminiscent of the 1980s for me...
By this point, the water had cooled down a bit much.
Too chilly!
